I like that you can shoot the Dakota 338 Win Mag without much fuss. The best all around caliber I own is probably the 30-06 Springfield from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Winnfield.
My old lady’s prized rifle is my new Dakota M76 with the checkered tigerwood chambered in 338 Win Mag and 30-06 Springfield. The best caliber is the 338 Win Mag (heck my prized bolt action is the 30-06 Springfield).
My friends and I like the 338 Win Mag best for varmit hunting. A minor problem with this shooter is the Dakota price, weighing in at $395, but for that you do get a hand crafted piece of artwork with the checkered tigerwood stock.
